Green Holiday Crafting for Kids
Green Holiday Crafting for Kids at the Solar Living Center
HOPLAND, Calif., November 5, 2013 — The Solar Living Institute (SLI) launches a new workshop series for children called Green Holiday Crafting beginning on November 23 at the Solar Living Center (SLC) in Hopland, CA. The series will show children how to help save the planet while making beautiful holiday crafts. Craft activities include making holiday ornaments from old CDs, bottle top refrigerator magnets, magazine angels, solar baked salt dough, seed paper and sun pictures.
“We plan to use recycled and reused materials in as many of the projects as possible, helping to reduce waste while making lovely decorations and gifts in the process. At SLI we are focusing on creative education that will expose children to positive environmental practices producing adults that leave less of a carbon footprint. Plus, we are offering parents an affordable entertainment option for their kids while they can visit the Real Goods store and sample mulled wine at the Frey tasting room located onsite,” commented SLI Executive Director, Teresa Jodon-Manns.

Rock and Roll Goes Solar
For Immediate Release
October 10, 2013
HOPLAND, Calif., October 10, 2013 — Environmentally conscious LA band Trapdoor Social will be raising awareness of the need for sustainability at the Solar Living Center, Hopland on Oct. 23. During their visit they will meet sixth grade students from Ocean Shore School, Pacifica to explain how they use their own skills as musicians to raise money and fight climate change.
Back in college, Skylar Funk and Merritt Graves came together over a commitment to take action on climate change and today, as indie rock duo Trapdoor Social, the pair continue to put their classic sounds and dark vocals to use in fighting climate change. The duo are going to be touring the US and Canada and as well as playing shows, their goal is to get together with social action groups and speak with them about their experiences trying to fight climate change.
“We hope that meeting this eco-conscious band might inspire some of the next generation to take action on environmental issues, it’s great to see that whatever talent you have, it can be used to help the planet,” commented Hannah Bird, program manager at the Solar Living Institute (SLI).
We are now accepting applications for our Summer 2014 internships,
Interns are an integral part of the success of the Solar Living Institute on a daily basis and the key to the organization's on-going mission of promoting sustainability through inspirational environmental education. Under a work-trade agreement, interns assist staff and participate in programs operated by the Institute.
This may include: helping to coordinate and host workshops; assisting with maintenance and construction of facilities; caring for the organic garden; landscaping; support logistics for special events; giving tours to school groups; marketing, helping around the office; and much more!
Summer internships run from April- October.
