Volunteer


Are you looking for meaningful ways to help restore the planet, learn about renewable energy or sustainable living, and become a part of a community of solution-seeking individuals?
 
As a nonprofit organization, the Solar Living Institute relies greatly upon the help of dedicated volunteers. If you would like to lend a hand and spend some time with the Solar Living Institute staff on various projects, please volunteer your services to the Institute. Volunteers are needed for:

Volunteer Policy

  • Volunteer & work/trade arrangements must be made in advance of arriving at SLI to volunteer.
  • After we receive your application it will be forwarded to department supervisors for review; they will contact you if your skills match current projects. If you are not contacted, we will keep your application on file for future volunteer opportunities.
  • Workshop/Trade requires 16 hours of work per each day of class that you would like to take. All hours must be completed prior to attending class.
  • Hosting Work/Trade volunteers receive 1 free workshop day in exchange for hosting a 1 day workshop.
  • No holding of spots for volunteers for a particular workshop in advance of performing volunteer time.
  • No Workshop/Trades for 5 day Intensive classes such as PV200 & PV300.
  • Workshop/Trade on a space available basis.
  • Public transportation in the Hopland area is limited and we do not provide transportation.
  • Must be 18 yrs of age & older to participate – younger volunteer participation can be arranged on a per person basis.
  • No pets.
  • No children.
  • On-site camping at the Solar Living Center is prohibited from Nov. 1 through March 31. Volunteer camping on-site requires 4 hours of work per person staying. 1 week maximum stay; can be re-negotiated for one additional week depending on work available.
  • Workshop/Trade and volunteer overnight stay at the Solar Living Center by prior approval only.
  • Camping privileges at the Solar Living Center include access to showers, restroom, primitive kitchen facilities, electricity & water. Reservations must be made to camp.
  • At the Solar Living Center, RV’s are permitted on a space available basis. Reservations must be made.
  • Intern village area at the Solar Living Center is off-limits to volunteers & campers.
