SolFest Event Downsized

HOPLAND, Calif., July 14, 2014 — The Solar Living Institute (SLI) announced today that its Board of Directors has downsized its SolFest celebration to a “Solar Living Institute Open House & Harvest Moon Celebration” to be held at the Solar Living Center in Hopland, Calif., on September 6. Because of the high impact of thousands of visitors on the gorgeous 12-acre permaculture demonstration site and its desire to focus on its mission of ‘providing inspirational environmental education’, the SLI has refocused to a smaller and more locally based event.

“The SLI Open House & Harvest Moon Celebration will closely align with our mission of promoting sustainable living through inspirational environmental education,” said Teresa Jodon-Manns, SLI executive director. “We want those who appreciate the great outdoors to enjoy the beauty of the Solar Living Center while learning more about the SLI and sustainable living. We’re particularly eager to open our beautiful site and ponds to locals who may not have yet been exposed to what we have to offer. We invite all previous SolFest attendees, and new participants to join us for a day filled with family activities, music, food, educational tours and workshops.”

The SLI Open House & Harvest Moon Celebration is a fundraising event. The event takes place on September 6 from 2-8 p.m. Admission is free, but a $10 donation is strongly encouraged to help support the non-profit activities of the Institute. Camping is available and reservations are required.

For Immediate Release

October 10, 2013

HOPLAND, Calif., October 10, 2013 — Students from the Wildflower Open Classroom, Chico will create a human powered sundial at the Solar Living Center (SLC) on Oct. 15.

“This project is so exciting for me,” commented Hannah Bird, program manager at the Solar Living Institute (SLI). “We will be working with the Wildflower Open Classroom’s seventh grade students to create an accurate sun clock on which your own shadow tells the time. Visitors to SLC can enjoy the clock beginning Oct. 16, but these students will always know that they had a special role in making all the precise measurements it requires.”

The students will also have the opportunity to work with cob and other natural building materials and camp on the site.
