As the Director of Business Development & Sustainability, Alex de Roode provides leadership in strategic planning, operations, program development and program implementation for Green Building LLC, a Maui, Hawaii based green building training and consulting firm. Alex helps to lead the LEED® certification process and building systems testing for new construction and existing residential and commercial buildings, as well as delivering cutting edge training in a variety of green building specialties.
Alex formerly served as the first Sustainability Manager for Portland Community College where he was responsible for the overall management of the College’s district-wide sustainability programs. Alex also served as the first Executive Director of the Sustainable Living Institute of Maui (SLIM) at the University of Hawaii-Maui College where he was involved in developing and implementing a wide range of sustainability training programs in fields such as renewable energy, energy management and green building, and was actively involved in community outreach activities dedicated to increasing people’s and organizations’ understanding of sustainability.
Alex holds a Master of Science degree in Bioresource Engineering from McGill University, and is a LEED Accredited Professional (AP) in Operations+Maintenance as well as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM).
